Coca-Cola has today unveiled the 2012 Copa Coca-Cola national football championships and reaffirmed its commitment to support football development in Tanzania. This is a unique under-17 tournament which draws participants from across Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
Copa Coca-Cola now rolls into its sixth consecutive year since its inception in Tanzania in 2007 with the aim to identification of football talents.
“We are proud that Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of the youth tournament has made a big difference in Tanzania with premier league clubs and youth national teams relying on football talents from Copa Coca-Cola for their new entries”, said Coca-Cola Brand Manager Tanzania Salome Mabirizi and reiterated the beverage company’s commitment to continue supplementing football development in Tanzania.
Copa Coca-Cola is played in three phases, starting from the grassroots where the teen teams mainly from secondary schools compete at district level out of which a combine team is formed to represent the district at the regional championships. The regional Copa Coca-Cola tournament is then is used to select the best combine team for the national finals.
The national finals have become a major pillar for Tanzanian football and a source of excitements for football fans that flock Copa Coca-Cola matches in their thousands to witness what the youngsters have to offer in terms of talents. The best teams and individual players win medals, trophies and cash prizes.
Kigoma region clinched Tsh 4.5m cash prize, medals and the glittering Copa Coca-Cola champions trophy when they emerged winners of the 28-team national Copa Coca-Cola finals last year.
To further motivate and inspire players, Coca-Cola has for the past five consecutive years been sending Copa Coca-Cola best players to international football training and competitive camp. In 2007 and 2008 outstanding Copa Coca-Cola players participated in the summer Brazilian Football Camp while 2009, 2010 and 2011 Copa Coca-Cola best players trained and competed in South Africa.

These avenues exposed the young players to the best training facilities, best coaches and got an opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow young players and experienced football experts from other countries.
