Nigeria’s Olympic team took a giant leap in their quest for a place at the 2011 All Africa Games with a 3-1 victory rivals Ghana on Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The Dream Team V came from behind to score thrice in the second half to put their noses in front ahead
Ghana led at half time thanks to midfielder Rabiu Mohamed from a goal mouth action after the Nigerian defence failed to deal with Mubarak Wakaso’s cross from the left.
Back from recess, NosaIgiebor even the scores on 50 minutes before putting Nigeria in the lead for first time eight minutes later from the spot after AC Milan midfielder Nnamdi Oduamadi was fouled in the penalty area by Daniel Opare.
On 71 minutes, central defender Ibok Edet soared above all to head home from close range.
The result puts the Ghanaians in a tight corner as they must score two unanswered goals to edge past their perennial rivals.
The second leg will take place in Accra in a fortnight.
The 10th edition of the All Africa Games will take place from 3-18 September in Maputo, Mozambique. RESULTS
