AILINDA SAWE -Tanzania
Ailinda Sawe is a true pioneer of Tanzanian Fashion. She has been a
successful fashion designer for three decades and heads her own company,
Afrika Sana Designs. Throughout her design career, Ailinda Sawe has
strived to portray her originality as a designer and the cultural features
of authentic Tanzanian fashion.
In 2001 she lead the way in research on traditional clothing across
Tanzania, covering nine selected peoples. Major among her creative
endeavors that consistently feature modern cultural wear in Tanzania are
her signature styles, such as Serengeti, Malaika, Tausi, Kingoni. The
Serengeti style for men and women gave her first place in Dar es Salaam
Region National Dress Competition in 2003. Ailinda's various styles have
given Afrika Sana the household name it has enjoyed in Tanzania for the
past two decades. Ailinda has participated in numerous major fashion
events around across the globe including, we are proud to say, at Swahili
Fashion Week it's self.
